Certification Programs

Certified Medical Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) Program

Program Description:  The CBCS program is the first step toward a career in medical coding and billing.  This program covers coding methods and competencies across all medical settings, including hospitals and physician practices.  Upon completion of this program, students will be prepared to take the CBCS exam administered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).   After earning the CBCS, coders can move on to earn more advanced certifications through additional training and/or experience.

Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) Program

Program Description:  A Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) performs routine administrative tasks to help keep physicians’ offices and clinics running efficiently.  They are often referred to as Medical Office Secretaries or Medical Office Assistants and are found in various healthcare settings.  This program is designed to provide the training which students need to contribute to medical office operations and qualify for entry-level positions.  Upon completion of this program, students will be prepared to take the CMAA exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).  With advanced training and education, CMAAs can become office managers and practice administrators of various healthcare offices.

Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) Program

Program Description:  A Certified Electronic Health Records Specialist (CEHRS) is responsible for maintaining the integrity and protecting the privacy and security of patient information in various healthcare facilities and government agencies.  Upon completion of this program, students will be prepared to take the CEHRS exam offered by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).

ICD-10

Description:  This course provides instruction on the fundamentals of ICD-10 coding and is taught in a comparative format with ICD-9.  Students will learn the differences between ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes, understand major changes to official coding guidelines, and develop the confidence to use the new system.  The course will focus on the most important aspects of ICD-10.

Course Objectives:

  • Identify the chapter-specific differences between ICD-9-CM and ICD-10-CM
  • Apply new conventions in the ICD-10-CM coding guidelines
  • Explain the new structure for procedure coding for inpatient services
  • Assign codes using the ICD-10-CM coding classification system
  • Categorize procedures by root operation
  • Master the use of ICD-10-PCS tables
  • Identify the benefits of transitioning to ICD-10
